So sorry i posted on the 19th one earlier oops couldn't find this one my bad.

Why do you feel that Abelard was taken to jail? Was it because he got intoxicated and joked about the dead bodies, his daughter and wife not coming to the party, or because of another reason?

Why you think the author mentioned the fuku after Abelard's wife said that she was pregnant? Even though Abelard was walking on thin ice since his oldest daughter was wanted by Trujillo? Could it have be that the child was the fuku for the family or would there be a different outcome if the mistress was the one that visited him and announced that she was pregnant?

I feel the reason Abelard was taking to jail was because he didn't allow Trujillo to see his daughter. He felt that the way Trujillo treated these girls was obviously wrong, but he should have taken the proper precautions to protect him and his family like his mistress spoke of. The comment or joke was an innocent mistake that cost him his well-being, but was an excuse to press charges on Abelard. The more I read, the more I am leaning towards the book conspiracy. Both sides make sense, but the book makes the most sense of all. Abelard was a well educated man; he had a thirst for knowledge and seemed to despise Trujillo. It seems only logical for him to write a book that unveils Trujillo's darkest shadows.

I think that the reason for abelard's imprisonment was a combination of bad luck and because he disrepected Trujillo by not bringing his daughter to the party. The accusation of the jokes about trujillo was just a way for him to be arrested.
